The 2012 Summer Olympic Games, also known as London 2012, are scheduled to take place in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012.

As with the road cycling competition, expectations are high that Team GB will be topping the track cycling medal table come the end of this summer’s Olympics. And why not? At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Team GB won gold in seven of the ten track cycling events with Scotland’s Sir Chris Hoy becoming the most successful male Olympic cyclist of all time.

The visual appearance of a bike and its components can also be protected in theUK as a “registered design”.  For instance, the frame and seat of Raleigh’s original iconic “Chopper” design were both protected as registered designs (and marked as such on the bike frame), giving Raleigh the right to prevent third parties from copying the visual appearance of those designs.  “Chopper” is also a registered trade mark of Raleigh UK Limited, meaning that it can prevent third parties from selling cycling related products under the same or a confusingly similar name.

So if like Graeme Obree you have designed a bicycle (or even just a part for a bicycle) which is innovative and ground breaking, think long and hard about patent protection before launching your product.  It may just be the most important decision you make.

In part, it is simply a quirk of the 2012 schedule. The cycling programme has been trimmed back, making it impossible for the Great Britain pedal-pushers to eclipse their tally of 2008. The GB rowers, in contrast, won six medals in China, including two golds, and are quietly confident of doing even better on home water at Eton Dorney, just down the road from Windsor Castle, over the first eight days of the Games. A royal command performance could potentially unfold.

Dip beneath the surface, though, and precious little luck is involved. Rowing is the only GB sport to have won gold at every Games since 1984. Lottery money – to the tune of £27m over four years – has helped fund a dedicated national training centre at Caversham and transform enthusiastic amateurs into hardened champions. Cycling receives £26m, while athletics and swimming receive £25m apiece. The golden era of Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent also helped spawn a fresh generation of backward-facing hopefuls.

Mr Willers also warned that part of the missile falls away when fired, claiming it could drop on to a passer-by or set a building on fire.

The judge hearing the application said the case was "urgent" and hopes to give judgment within a day or two.

The residents also want an injunction preventing the siting of the missiles until their legal challenge is heard.

At the High Court in London, the defence secretary is expected to be accused by the local residents' association of breaching Article 8 and Article 1 of Protocol 1 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Dola Banerjee, who went to two Olympics but faltered in her attempts, told The Hindu, "She is confident and technically well equipped. She is experienced and has done exceedingly well during the run-up to the Olympics. Unlike other international meets, Olympic Games are special. How well she will be able to handle the pressure during the competition will hold the key to her success."

Four Chinese players have qualified for the Olympic tennis event, which runs from July 28 to August 5. Li, last year's French Open winner, will be joined by Zheng Jie and Peng Shuai in the women's singles draw. Peng and Zheng will also team up for the doubles, while Li will compete alongside Zhang Shuai.

It's a reduced participation compared to that of last Olympics in Beijing, but the players are much-improved.

The 30-year-old Li rocketed to fame when she captured the 2011 French Open title to become Asia's first Grand Slam singles champion.

Although Li has failed to win another trophy since the Paris breakthrough, the world No. 11 still proves to be a medal contender at Olympics.

"I am looking forward to playing at the Olympics. This could be my last time to play for my country at the Olympics as I'm already 30 years old and you never know what will happen after four years," Li said during this year's Wimbledon.

From nine in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, the number of shooters for the London Games have swelled to 11, which is the highest ever.

Eleven is quite an impressive number and one cannot also overlook the fact that Indian shooters have upped their standards since August 11, 2008 when Bindra shot an incredible 700.5 to clinch the men's 10m Air Rifle gold at the Beijing Shooting Range.
