The sheets are perforated transversly at regular intervals at equidistance. These are used  by machines to push the sheet forward as the printing is in action. These perforations are also known as engagement holes and are places in a tearable edge which can be ripped off leaving only the printable part.  One can clearly see this mechanism while the dot matrix printer is in action.   

The continuous form paper (sheet or rolls) is manufactured using uncoated single ply or multi-ply with or without the carbon sheet in between. The uncoated or wood free accord fine finish and hence excellent readability. The carbon less variant functions like a carbon paper but without the usual inserted carbon sheet. The undersurface is able to print on the sheath beneath as the printing is in progress.  This ability is provided by a special dye on the back side of the top sheet which ruptures during the process forming the exact shape of the alphabet on the sheet below.

But the manufacturing process is that of the sheet which are than rolled for usage. Hence this product is available in various shapes and size.
