Lifepo4 battery knowledge: Charging strategy and Lifespan... There is not much common knowledge about what to think about when changing your battery system over to Lifepo4 from old school lead acids or even other lithium based batteries.
Charging and discharging parameters effect the lifespan (kwh discharge) of Lifepo4 batteries drastically. (Lifespan can also mean to how many years the batteries will last which is different than the total kwh lifetime discharge.) For this article I will be talking strickly about lifespan as kwh discharge.
If you charge and discharge lifepo4 batteries from 0% charge to 100% charge standard cells will last about 3500 cycles. Comparitively, if you charge and discharge from 10% to 90% the batteries will last 8000 cycles.
This is the difference between 640,000 kwh of discharge vs 350,000 kwh of discharge lifespan.
