The era of 3D printing is bringing lots of new innovations and technologies that were only envisioned in science fiction movies. With 3D printing the sky is the limit for designers in all fields and industries across the globe. Motorola is now partnering with the leading company in 3D printing technologies called, 3D Systems. Together they plan to create a new smartphone that has replaceable components, just like a regular PC does.
Motorola which is now controlled by Google announced its plans for the creation of the phone through a project called, Ara. The high-tech experts at the online magazine, Masterforex-V World Academy will guide us through the available information about the project.
The role that 3D Systems will have in the project is the creation of the different components that will make up the smartphone. Because some of the parts of the modular smartphone will be manufactured from many different materials, the manufacturing process may run into certain difficulties. As explained by 3D Systems, to implement project Ara successfully, the company will need to greatly expand its capabilities of three-dimensional printing.
The project is really promising, due to the fact that Motorola decided to rely on a company with great experience in the 3D printing field. 3D Systems had its first working 3D-printer released about 20 years ago. Before the modular smartphone of Motorola will be embodied in reality, it may take quite a lot of time. Because of the great complexity of the project, just a single developing stage can last up to 12 months. A few more years will be spent on organizing the logistics.
Project Ara includes the creation of a number of parts for clients to customize their phones to their very own taste. In other words, if a smartphone for any reason fails to meet the user's needs or one of the components breaks down, the person can just replace that part. Pretty much the same way you do with a regular PC where you can change the RAM Memory, the CPU, the monitor, etc.
