Mexico has seen a significant rise in international tourist arrivals, moving up to seventh place globally, according to the World Tourism Organization. The country welcomed approximately 21.9 million international visitors in 2005, marking a notable increase in its tourism sector.
The surge in international arrivals has led to a corresponding increase in demand for tourism services. To cater to this growing demand, there has been a significant expansion in flight services to Mexico. Currently, there are 23 new flights from the United States and an additional three flights from Canada.
Mexico continues to attract both leisure and business travelers with its diverse offerings. From stunning beaches and rich cultural destinations to thrilling adventure tourism options, Mexico offers a unique blend of experiences. Furthermore, the country is renowned for its exceptional value and warm hospitality, as noted by Tourism Secretary Rodolfo Elizondo.
The tourism sector has had a positive impact on Mexico's employment figures. In 2005, the industry generated 1.9 million direct jobs, marking a 3 percent increase from the previous year. Recognizing the sector's potential, the Mexican government has been investing considerable resources in its development.
The Mexican government has implemented a comprehensive, long-term tourism strategy that extends until 2025. The plan aims to consistently increase the number of international visitors and boost tourism revenue.
The Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) is a collaborative effort between federal and state governments, municipalities, and private companies to promote Mexico's tourism attractions and destinations internationally. Established in 1999, the MTB is Mexico’s primary tourism promotion agency, with members from both the private and public sectors. The MTB operates offices across North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
