PHOENIX-MESA GATEWAY AIRPORT

Phoenix – Mesa gateway airport was developed in 1941 to share the burden of the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport when it had nearly reached its capacity. Thus the airport has relieved much burden of the domestic flights from the Sky Harbor International Airport. It is now the focus of most of the domestic passengers and tourists who are travelling for no commercial purposes. In this way it has played a major role in regulating the air transport in the Metropolitan Area of Phoenix. Federal Aviation Administration classifies it as a reliever airport.The Mesa Gateway airport was developed from the former William Air Force base. The base had served the military for many years supporting their aircrafts, training the fighter pilots and also has great contributions in the World War II. It is still owned and controlled by the William Gateway Airport Authority. The authority consists of five boards of directors which include influential people of Gilbert, Queen Creek and Mesa. The authority makes sure that all the flights land and take off safely.

The air travel tickets for the airport are economical than from the other commercial airports and this makes it a priority for the domestic people. This is evident from the fact that thousands of passengers board from here daily. This has been possible because of the Allegiant Air-that connects Mesa Airport to nearly thirteen destinations with only a minimal cost. Besides this the Airport is serving as a learning center for the budding pilots. Because the environment and the weather here a favorable for the flights and the air traffic is comfortable many flying schools train their students here. This place is popular for training because it has been used for long as the military airbase where the fighter pilots were trained. The place has retained its popularity to date.The airport contains three runways that are paved in concrete. All the runways are in good condition and serving at their best.

Each of them is 150 feet wide and around ten thousand feet long. The runways are taken great care of to ensure maximum safety and cleanliness. It also serves as the airbase for a large number of airplanes; some of them belong to US Military.The Allegiant air is the most important airline that schedules a number of flights daily. The busiest routes are from Mesa to Cedar Rapids, Fargo, Sioux Falls, Bellingham, Peoria, Missoula, Rockford, Bismarck, Billings and Rapid City. The Allegiant Air was pioneer airline that made a focus city in the Airport. Apart from this other private airlines are also operating many flights here.Mesa airport provides good job opportunity to many people. It also entertains some commercial and chartered flights. Cargoes are handled with care and efficiency. Due to all these features the Phoenix- Mesa Gateway Airport, is gaining more and popularity. Government should try to make policies to expand the airport further. This will help to create more jobs in the country and also decrease the traffic load in the Phoenix metropolitan.
