If you have an addiction to sugar, you know what a tough road it is to travel in today's society with the abundance of sugary products thrown at us on a daily basis. I know I do. In fact, my favorite grocery store just remodeled and put their bakery at the front door! You HAVE to walk through it to shop there! Not only is it driving me crazy, it is making it harder and harder to walk through there without buying something...even if I didn't want it when I walked in. Then the rest of the shopping trip I have to mentally fight with myself not to go back and indulge "just a little". Do you know what I am talking about? If yes, and you are determined to beat your sugar cravings, this series will give you fire tested, proven tactics that work.
One thing I do recommend in implementing tips: Take them one at a time. Write them down and schedule them. Perhaps say, “over the next three weeks I need to do this one the first week, this one the second week and this one the third week”. Without a doubt, you will have much success in implementing this way. And to insure YOUR success, I will deliver these fire tested, proven techniques in a 3 part series.
As you implement these techniques, listen to your body and see how you react when things happen for you.
First tip: Get rid of all the white flour in your life that you possibly can.
Now you’re thinking, wait a minute. I came here to crush my sugar cravings, what on earth does white flour have to do with that? This is what a lot of people are unaware of or just never considered. Here is why it is important: Your body does not know the difference if you give it a tablespoon of sugar or a slice of white bread. It processes in your body the same. So your mind might see a slice of white bread - your tongue might see a slice of white bread as opposed to a tablespoon of sugar - but once it gets past your tongue - your body does not know the difference! It's processing like sugar all the same.
So if over time you wrote down, even for one day, all the things you ate: how many of those things are processed white flour? A ton! And not only is it the white bread, even some of the whole wheat bread will process like sugar, unless it says whole wheat grain as the first ingredient on the label. If it doesn't say that, it is nothing but white bread with caramel syrup in it. That’s all it is.
Just think potato chips, pretzels, popcorn, those graham crackers, all different sorts of crackers, a cinnamon bun, a bagel, English muffins. The list just goes on and on. If we all put our heads together we could come up with a hundred things. They are all processing immediately into sugar into your body. And it makes a huge difference. Here we are saying: Oh my gosh, I have problems with these sugar cravings. We are unknowingly reinforcing it all day long and we don’t even realize it.
We blame it on the one candy bar we had or the one slice of Aunt Irene’s apple pie. Then we say: I blew it. And then beat our selves up over it. And a vicious cycle begins.
Getting rid of the white flour in your life is most definitely the #1 action you can take towards conquering your sugar cravings. Then may take some practice, but it is definitely worth the effort.
