“How to Make Diet Shakes That Rock”
Diet shakes aren’t what they used to taste like 40 years ago, or even 20 years ago. One of the first diet shakes on the market is Medifast – Yuck! I was a little girl when I first tried this god awful shake. As a child, I remembered thinking, “If I ever go on a diet, I’m going to learn how to make diet shakes that taste like real ice-cream.” With Medifast’s chalky after taste and opaque film that clung to the glass, I prayed I would never have to go on a diet.
Chalk-Like Shakes – Yuck!
Diet shakes aren’t what they used to taste like 40 years ago,
or even 20 years ago. No such luck. As a chubby kid who loved to watch her dad make milk shakes at his malted shop, I later grew up to be a fat lady who couldn’t stop drinking them. I needed to learn how to lose weight. But I also needed to curb my sweet tooth.
Sugar, Sugar
Everyone’s got a sweet tooth craving. I had to learn how to make diet shakes that satisfied my sweet tooth craving and that also didn’t totally tank my diet. I had to admit that there were some days the best diet shake in the world would not mollify me. I would need the real thing. So I set out to the nearest appliance store and began collecting diet shake paraphernalia.
Ice-Cream Maker Heaven
If you want ultra creamy, thick diet shakes, nothing will do but an ice-cream maker – a high quality one. Be prepared to spend at least $200 bucks. Don’t bother with blenders - they’ll only water down the shake. Cuisinart makes high quality ice-cream makers and they’re less expensive than other name brand ice-cream makers. Okay, so now that we’ve purchased the ice-cream maker, we need to purchase the ingredients so we can whip up this smooth creamy delight. Combine the following ingredients:
1 Cup Light Whipping Cream
2 Cups Fat-Free Half & Half
1 Cup Frozen Strawberries
5 Tablespoons Vanilla Flavoring
1 Cup Splenda
1 Package Fat-Free Vanilla Cream Wafers
Hershey’s Fat-Free Chocolate Syrup
Get Ready to Die and Go to Heaven
After freezing the mixture of all the ingredients except for the wafers and the chocolate syrup for 20 minutes, your ice-cream should be the consistency of a thick shake. I forgot to mention this next part. During the last 5 minutes of the churning, add your frozen strawberries. Once your shake is poured in a tall ice-cream glass, pour the fat-free Hershey’s chocolate syrup over it and add 2 fat-free vanilla wafers as a garnish. Get ready to die and go to heaven!
How Many Calories?
You’re probably wondering how many calories this luscious creamy shake has right? Well, because I used all fat-free and light ingredients, the calories per 16 oz shake (who on earth drinks 8 ounces of a milk shake??) comes out to just 200, with zero fat. A Nestle’s chocolate candy bar has 260 calories and 26 grams of fat. Which would you rather have?
