To offer some important dates regarding the history of lipstick, here is a fairly complete chronology.

At first it was Mesopotamia,Lipstick Birthdays. Articles 2500 to 1000 BC. and is considered the first to create lipstick in recorded history.

Then it was the peoples of the Indus Valley, 2000 BC. that were known to use color dyes, many that caused sickness.

Egypt would be next at 2000 BC to 100 AD. they were known to crush insects, namely the carmine beetle, and apply the juices.

800 to 1200 AD, Arabs managed to create a solid form of lipstick, and had perfumes blended in.

1500s during the reign of Elizabeth the 1st. a lily white painted face along with shimmering red lips became en vogue. Lipstick became

wildly popular at that time and were fabricated using wax from bees. This was used by the wealthy and high class citizens.

By the 1700s, lipstick was no longer for the wealthy only, and was used by the middle classes, and lower classes that could pay for it.

Unfortunately the 1800s was no friend to lipstick. Christian churches frowned on it, and it was mostly used by prostitutes and stage actors. This

then changed forever when mass production of cosmetics took the world, and the french began mass producing the product.

1912 was a huge year for lipstick as American women began to use the cosmetic on an almost daily basis.

1915 another huge event for lipstick as the first metal tubes were used for sale.

1921, again a huge event as the ladies of Europe joined the Americans in daily use of the product.

1930 enormous invention of lip gloss by Max Factor. Once again the change was forever.

1950 Non smearing lipstick was created by an amazing American chemist named Hazel Bishop.

1950s Hollywood Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe were to start a craze regarding dark red lip colors. This was an enormous

leap forward in the use of new colors and trends.

1960s Rock and Roll musicians began to use white lip sticks, even though darker shades were more popular. It was to show

how cosmetics could be a devise of counter culture. Also at that time, high heels and lipstick were en vogue, and being different was in.

1970s introduced us to black lipstick and the goth counter culture look. It was also in use by punk rockers and other subcultures.

1973 Bonnie Bell Cosmetics put out flavored lip gloss named lip smackers, and changed lip gloss permanently, as well as

creating a lip gloss craze among teenage girls world wide.

2000s, seems like the whole planet has accepted lipsticks as a cosmetic for daily use. Colors are abundant, and choice are greater than

ever to please just about every type of lip stick or gloss using client.
