A profile of the typical individual who commits hate crimes.

Oftener young people and juveniles predominate over people who commit hate crimes. Mostly they are white men,Hate crimes are a tragic part of American history Articles aged 16-25. Usually hate crimes are committed by organized groups, but there are crimes committed by individuals.

Perpetrators of hate crimes are usually prejudiced against somebody’s race, sexual orientation, religion and other. In my opinion, such people can be characterized as ill-bred, immoral, aggressive, narrow-minded, ridden by hatred people. Their behavior is usually violent, antisocial, bias-motivated. There can be singled out two main types of perpetrators. The first one includes people, who under the influence of thrill, burst of anger, hatred, are capable of committing hate crimes. Very often, social environment, situation of taking alcohol, drugs can favor spontaneous, random manifestations of their harassment and violence. Another type is mission-motivated perpetrators, who are sure they have a mission of ridding the world from some minorities, they follow special instructions. These individuals commit well thought-out, controllable, organized hate crimes.

Usually perpetrators of hate crimes lack of empathy, respect for others, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills.  They are usually sure they are right, fair, that their victims deserve such violent attitude, and that they struggle for justice committing hate crimes.

Causes of hate crimes.

There can be a lot of causes of hate crimes. Usually, they originate from social, economic, political instabilities.

Social instability can generate certain prejudice as a result of demographic and social changes. The increasing of ethnic and racial groups in some area can cause hate crimes, connected with race bias. Changes in laws, in society directed at increasing rights of women, people with disabilities, individuals with different sexual orientation, of different racial groups can provoke hate crimes of those people who do not agree with this equality. Economic instability can cause hate crimes based on such factors as unemployment, competition, changing job, etc. It means that these factors favor the appearance of hatred, harassment, and desire to humiliate representatives of other race, gender, religion if they, for example, get better job or some privilege.

Political conflicts can also lead to hate crimes. Because a person can use violent methods against others to defend his independence, self-respect, his status and to show that he is superior to others.

In general, all hate crimes are profoundly based on people’s prejudices connected with race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.

Minimization of the occurrence of hate crimes.

To minimize hate crimes there should be worked out some laws, programs, regulations that can provide minorities with legal protection against perpetrators of hate crimes.

There also should be created victim-assistance agencies to help properly the victims to cope with their trauma.

There should be paid great attention to the education of society directed at destroying stereotypes, prejudices, hostility and hatred. People should be taught to be more understanding, tolerant, to respect all people notwithstanding their race, religion, sexual orientation.
