Lorry drivers and haulage companies are set to make significant savings with the opening of Northamptonshire's first dynamic public weighbridge.
Load weight compliance is an issue that's constantly at the front of every HGV driver and fleet manager's mind. In good news, life just got a whole lot easier (and potentially more profitable) for haulage companies and lorry drivers all over the East Midlands region, with the opening of Northamptonshire's first dynamic, drive-over public weighbridge. The world's most accurate weighbridge is set to provide an efficient, convenient and cost effective service for regional hauliers.
Accessible Location
The new weighbridge has been installed at the Wellingborough Council Depot on the Finedon Road Industrial Estate, and is operated by Facilities Management services provider, Wellingborough Norse. Its strategic location puts it in the perfect accessible position to cater to the busy M1 and A14 HGV traffic, and means that haulage companies and self-employed drivers will make significant savings in potential fines and running costs by no longer having to travel to weighbridges out of the county.
The location of the weighbridge also affords greater efficiency for the Wellingborough Council itself, with Wellingborough Norse now able to carry out onsite weighing of bulk recyclables before transferring them out, rather than having to travel to an out-of-county weigh station first – therefore incurring higher costs and increased down time. A spokesperson from Wellingborough Norse said that not only would this kind of cost saving for the local council benefit their own commercial operations, it would also result in savings for the general public.
Axtec Technology
Axtec is one of the most trusted names in weighbridge technology; its Dynamic Axle Weighbridge is the only one in the world approved for public use. As well as being convenient for haulage companies, the dynamic nature of the Axtec weighbridge makes it extremely fast, efficient and accurate.
In order to gain a digital weight reading, drivers need only to drive their vehicle over the platform (which is flush to the ground) at a steady 2.5 mph. From start to finish it takes (on average) just 40 seconds to weigh a six-axle lorry and trailer and it's accurate to within +/- 0.25%, making it the most precise weighbridge on the market.
In addition to measuring the gross vehicle weight, the Axtec weighbridge also calculates individual axle weights (needed for weight distribution compliance), which sets it apart from the many other plate models used around the world.
The Right Place at the Right Time
The weighbridge has been installed at the centre of a busy transport hub, which includes the intersection of Northampton, Kettering and Wellingborough where a high number of transport operators are based. With haulage companies and independent operators from Northamptonshire now able to check their load weights within the local district, it's a dead cert that their operations will benefit from greater efficiencies, significant cost savings and the comfort of knowing they can maintain their legal compliance.
Details: The new Axtec weighbridge in Northamptonshire is open from 8.00am to 4.00pm daily, with a cost of £15 (typical vehicle).
