The chemicals used in strong cleaning equipment can damage carpeting if it isn't used properly. You don't want to pay for a service and have your floors look worse after the guys from the company have finished cleaning up, nor do you want to have a company come in and do something you could have done on your own with inexpensive products from the grocery store.

People don't hold back when giving out their opinions online. Keep in mind that you are much more likely to run into negative reviews, simply due to human nature.
