Information products or info-products are any form of a tangible or intangible product that informs or educates. Basically it is information that you turn into a product for sale or give-away, such as reports, e-books, books, manuals, workbooks, software, e-courses, CDs, and videos. And even some services like teleclasses, live seminars, webinars, coaching, and membership programs are part of the information product industry.
These products may be tangible as in books, CDs, and DVDs, or they may be intangible, that is, in electronic format, like e-books, e-courses, downloadable audios, teleclasses, and webinars. Since people learn in different styles, you can take the same knowledge and reproduce it in different formats. Some people are more visual so they like to learn by reading books or e-books. Some people are more audio learners, so they enjoy CDs and audios. For those who like a step-by-step practical format of learning, there are e-courses, workbooks, and seminars. And for some who like to have support when they learn, you can offer coaching, memberships, teleclasses, and webinars.
The term infopreneuring is used for entrepreneurs who develop a line of products that impart their expertise and knowledge, generally done in a product funnel beginning with free, then going up the scale in cost. You first get people into your product funnel and mailing list with free items like a 5-10 page report, a short e-book, or a coaching session. Next you market back to them to offer them low cost, low risk products, like an e-book and CD package or a 4-week teleclass series. As they become loyal followers, and like what you have to say, they will want to invest more in your expertise and therefore buy more of your products, hopefully the higher end ones costing upwards of several thousand dollars.
Most people may not spend a lot at first, as they want to try you out. Yet, as they get to know, like, and trust you, they will spend more money. You increase the cost of your products and services in the info-product funnel. By selling to the same people over and over, you decrease your marketing costs. You are building a relationship with your customers and you can continue to produce products that fill their needs as you stay in touch with them and find out what their needs are.
The reason service providers like coaches, consultants, speakers, trainers, business owners, and others want to develop info-products is that is becomes a source of passive income. With their service, they must be present to provide that service and they can only get a certain number of dollars per hour. And there are only a certain number of hours per day. With info-products, a service provider can leverage their time as a product can generally sell 24/7 without their time input. This would not pertain to live events like coaching and teleclasses, but would work for books, e-books, e-courses, and all the other info-products previously mentioned.
If you are a service provider trading your time for dollars, it’s time for you to leverage your knowledge and join the infopreneurs for massive passive profits!
