Nobody likes to waste things like time, money, labor and materials, except for maybe the government. They could use the principles of lean manufacturing and the principles that Six Sigma has been teaching for years. But even if they don't use these ideas and become efficient, the rest of us can. Whether it is for a non-profit organization or a business or in your classroom or home, becoming more efficient and less wasteful can benefit anybody.

Whether it is for a non-profit organization or a business or in your classroom or home, becoming more efficient and less wasteful can benefit anybody.

There's things that you can look for in any application and these wastes are in all places. How much material do you throw away at work, paper, and metal and lumber? What about at home? Are things completed in the most efficient manner? Is the laundry collected in place that is close to the washer and dryer or do you need to go collect it from multiple areas of the house to get prepared to do laundry?

Waste is common, is the same in your kitchen. Most kitchens are designed to do everything that forms a central access point. The refrigerator and stove should not be more than a few steps from the pool. Everything is based on a triangle in which one or the other is just within reach. It makes cleaning and cooking just that much easier and more efficient. When you are preparing a meal, is not it more efficient to have everything ready before hand instead of getting what you need when the need arises?

It's the same at work or in any business. The less waste in the movement, in labor and materials, the cost will be more effective than when the prices of your product and the more profitable it will be. To the point where they are efficient or at least more efficient is not as difficult as you might imagine. Any small step you take to become more efficient will save money and time.

Even if they are baby steps that make a difference. Every dollar and every minute saved amount of time saved translates into real dollars saved, again, becoming more competitive and more profitable. Looking to hit a home run, the huge thing that will save a lot of money in all that one is important, but not afraid to take a lot of singles to run the score. Every dollar saved is good.
