Combi boilers are also knows as combination boilers. The combination boiler heats water in a similar fashion as conventional boiler but in addition it can also provide hot water in taps almost instantly hence the name combi or combination boilers. The difference here is that the hot water required for the taps is sourced directly from the main supply rather than hot water storage cylinder or tank. The main advantage of this is that it consumes less space because there is no storage tank for the water.

They are also referred to as highly efficient condensing boilers. As discussed above this type of boiler eliminates the need to store water in a tank or cylinder making the hot water inside the airing cupboard needless.

Reasons to choose a combi boiler

Stable temperature

The most important reason why people choose such a unit is that there is no sudden change in water temperature this is because of the thermostat settings and control that can found on the boiler. Almost all combination varieties have these controls and they come as a standard fitting nowadays.

Space Constraint

When space is of premium importance and there is no roof space for installation for a different boiler then the combination boiler is the best choice as it has no storage tank.

Instantaneous hot water supply

The other main reason of using this system widely is the hot water in the taps and showers is received almost immediately after switching on the system.

Advantages of using a Combi Boiler

They can be used for both homes and flats. Since the unit is directly connected to water mains the supply of water is instantaneous and the pressure of the water is also constant giving warm water to both the shower and tops. Since all the heating components such are within the system itself it very easy to install and it consumes less space when compared to other traditional boilers. Most of these combination varieties are very efficient this means it can also reduce the electricity bill in the home. The other advantage of this boiler there is no waiting to get the hot water in taps and in the shower. Since it has fewer parts the service and operational costs are low.

Disadvantages

There is only one disadvantage in using a combi boiler and that is it requires adequate supply of cold water for the hot water which is needed on demand. What this means is that depending upon the power of the system and the simultaneous usage of many taps the water pressure may vary. So if there is water supply in the mains is not adequate there will be a sudden drop in pressure resulting in a reduced water flow.

Conclusion

Combi boilers are one of the best and widely used systems in the country. Its advantages and its low maintenance costs make it one of the ideal choices for the country with cold climate. If a new home is built or a new system is needed the mixed unit is the perfect solution.
