For over 20 years, the FTA has organised an annual series of Transport Manager Conference. The 2016 schedule
For over two decades, the Freight Transport Association has held a series of 12 regional Transport Manager Conferences that bring together road, sea, air and rail transport companies, industry leaders, regulatory bodies and many others to discuss the changes that the logistics industry is going through. Each conference is a unique opportunity for all those involved in courier work to meet with their colleagues, and others involved in the industry, to discuss views and problems - as well as brainstorm ideas for the future.
Looking After the Industry’s Interests Since 1889
The FTA has been supporting the logistics industry for almost 130 years – since 1889. The Association’s mandate includes:
Today, FTA members (including those involved in long-range haulage and short-range courier work) operate in excess of 200,000 trucks and lorries – well over half of the entire UK haulage fleet. FTA members are also responsible for 70% of UK sea and air exports and 90% of rail freight.
12 Regional Venues
Because of the importance that the FTA attaches to the Transport Manager Conferences, and because it seeks to involve as many of its members and industry operators as possible in the exchange of knowledge and ideas, it puts on 10 to 12 regional conferences every year. So wherever your operation, there will always be a conference coming up that, as well as dealing with national issues, also focuses on local matters.
2016 conferences are being held in Chepstow, Durham, London, Peterborough, Warrington, Dumblane, Yeovil, Barnsley, Southampton and Coventry (More details here).
The 2016 Conference Program
This year’s conference series concentrates on four main areas of interest:
Compliance – Each conference will host a local Traffic Commissioner to discuss local and national issues. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will provide an update on changes in the OCRS system and the 'earned recognition' programme. Health and Safety will also be addressed focusing on the responsibility of the company and its transportation manager.
Excellence – Industry accreditation standards, changes to FORS and the FTA’s innovative Truck Excellence scheme.
On-Line Licencing –The DVLA will demonstrate its new licensing and medical systems and offer drivers and management an opportunity to use their new app to try out the new systems.
Regulatory and Responsibility Issues – Challenges, uncertainty, and preparing for Brexit. Accident prevention on the road. Calendar of compliance and regulatory updates and changes.

The conferences are open to all those involved in logistics and courier work - FTA members and non-members alike. It’s highly recommended to reserve a place for yourself or your delegates as soon as possible.
