Z Wave is an emerging smart home and home automation protocol that adopts RF wireless technology that enables users to control home lighting with lighting groups and lighting scenes. Z Wave controller and Z Wave dimmer enable wireless synchronization control of multiple groups.
A Z Wave system is a wireless network that contains controllers and lighting devices such as a dimmer switch. There are two types of controllers, including a primary controller that mainly administrates the network and add other controllers and devices to the network or remove them from the network, secondary controllers which shall be added to network by primary controller and are mainly responsible for controlling the devices. The z wave dimmer is the lighting device to be added to network by primary controller and controlled by secondary controllers. Each network allows up to 243 devices, which are enough for home lighting. The signal transmission distance between every two device can be up to 30m.
All the devices are nodes with transceiver function in the network, which means they not only receive signal from the secondary controllers but also send out signal one another. Active route function enables them to avoid a dead radio spot or a node that is malfunctioned and communicate with one another by a third node, which means the signal sent out by the secondary controller can be synchronized to all devices in the network. Wireless synchronization greatly simplifies the control for different areas and increases control distance.
Lighting group function enables devices to be added to different groups by the primary controller, and the secondary controller shall support group commands. Each group can be associated with up to 20 devices (dimmer or switch). For instance, the devices in sitting room can be associated with group 1, the devices in bedroom can be associated with group 2 and so on. These groups can be controlled synchronously or separately.
Lighting scene function enables users to recall the predefined scenes for different groups and atmospheres. For instance, you can recall a warmer white scene for your bedroom at night, or you can recall cooler white scene for your sitting room at night. Also you can save scenes to different groups to replace predefined ones.
