The year 2020 that started with the bang of bad news hasn’t bought the much required ray of hope yet. The situation in fact is worsening with each passing day. We are amidst the unprecedented times that has affected the lives of mankind the most.

The world,Lock Down and its Impact on the Recruitment Industry Articles in literal terms stopped functioning. Business operations have come to pause and industries have shut their doors for months for the first time. The pandemic of Covid 19 has confined us to the boundaries of our homes. And while this remains to be the best decision in favour of mankind, economies have drained and there is a long way ahead before we recover from these tough times.

With economies sinking to extreme depths, we cannot ignore the impact it will have on job market, not only in India but across the World. The impact on recruitment industry will vary with each industry but these would be the probable and predictable scenario at large.

  1. Hiring plans would be freezed

This is bound to be the case for various industries. With 2 months into lockdown, it would be a long journey ahead before every business house fully recovers. Hiring would face stagnation to large extent as it would be difficult to cover the expense for hiring new employee. Hiring in service industries that are directly impacted by Covid 19 outbreak would remain low for a long time ahead. This includes industry of traveling, entertainment and hospitality.

  1. Delay in interviews

The positions that required immediate filling before lockdown would now remain vacant for a long time. Large proportion of scheduled interviews are predicted to be delayed or cancelled. Campus hiring of graduates would face stagnation. Also the fresher and entry level candidates would face difficulty finding appropriate placement due to freeze in hiring. However, there is a prediction that IT industries or tech enabled business would show only a slight decline in hiring.

  1. Increase in proportion of layoff

One week into lockdown and large proportion of firms started practising layoffs. These layoffs are predicted to increase even after the lockdown ends. Large number of firms by now have already found alternatives to incorporate technology for daily operations. Inefficient staffs and ineffective roles would be removed. Unemployment rate would surge after this pandemic. People have already started losing their jobs as the huge corporations and small business houses cannot afford to sustain them.

There is no denying to the fact that the recruitment industry would see a negative slope in hiring of employees after lockdown. For the long time ahead, till the firms recover, inefficient or at times even efficient employees would be removed and unnecessary job roles would be cut off the charts.
