Until now, people looking for a hardwearing mobile phone were limited to just a few options which only have basic specifications and carry out simple functions. The handset measures 107x 59x 13.4 mm whilst weighing in at a relatively lightweight 118 g.  It boasts a 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen which is able to display up to 16 million individual colours within a pixel layout of 480x 854.  The screen is made out of Gorilla Glass, which protects it from scratches and everyday wear and tear.  The screen comes with touch-sensitive controls as well as multi-touch input support and proximity and accelerometer sensors.

An impressive 5 mega pixel digital camera is included, and this operates at 2592x 1944 pixels and boasts Autofocus, LED flash and image stabilisation.  These features not only improve the quality of the resulting still images, but also simplify the task of taking them.  Users can also utilise the camera to shoot video footage, and this is in VGA quality at a rate of 30 frames per second.

 

The Motorola Defy calls upon the ever popular Android operating system, in this case v2.1 (Eclair); however this is upgradeable to later versions.  It works in conjunction with an 800 MHz processor to provide a fast user interface as well as an ideal platform for expansion and customisation thanks to access to the Android Market, were users can browse thousands of apps and download the apps of their choice.
