The latest BlackBerry OS update is now out, and the BlackBerry Curve 9360 and Bold 9900 are getting it.
Research In Motion (RIM) has rolled out the Blackberry OS 7.1 update for its latest smartphones. The update brings a host of new features for handsets such as the Curve 9360 and Bold 9900.
Since both handsets sport an NFC (Near Field Communication) chip, you can share your 3G internet connection. The phones can now share internet to as much as five Wi-Fi capable devices. They can now act as a mobile hotspot to devices like laptops, tablets, and even other mobile devices. If ever there are no public hotspots around, there's no need to worry. All you need to do is share your phone's 3G internet connection.
There is another new feature you can take advantage of since the two phones are NFC-enabled. This is the Tag feature. There are a number of new things you can do by simply tapping one NFC-enabled handset to another. This includes permanently pairing an NFC-enabled Bluetooth device. Another is sharing files such as music, videos, and pictures with just a simple tap. Yet another is sharing contact information. The last is inviting a friend to RIM's popular mobile instant messaging service BBM. You can now enjoy all of these by simply tapping phones with NFC chips against one another.
Do you wish you could make calls on your Curve 9360 and Bold 9900 without using your minutes? This is one of the new features the 7.1 OS update has to offer. It's called Wi-Fi calling. Whenever you come across a Wi-Fi hotspot, you can now course calls over the internet. Since hotspots are mostly free, this means that you do not use up your monthly minutes and spend too much on calls. This also ensures that you don't get charged for going over your allotted minutes.
Another new feature for the Curve 9360 and Bold 9900 is Auto Suggest. With each and every key stroke entered into the universal search, this new feature filters suggested Bing search terms and local search results. This is to interpret what exactly you are searching for and provide you with the best options. In other words, the phone does the thinking for you.
Lastly, the update will bring FM tuner support to the phones. There will be instances when you will be more in the mood for music on the radio than stored tracks. This new feature will allow you to listen to your favorite FM radio station wherever you may be.
