Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP, also known as Great Plains is very popular accounting application and platform for mid-size businesses.
It serves large number of industries: wholesale and retail, shipping and logistics, healthcare, light manufacturing and assembly (especially discrete production), multinational companies, services, project organization, trading. In this small publication we would like to give you some highlight on Great Plains Reporting tool – FRx financial reporting. There are multiple reporting tools for GP: Crystal Reports, Report Writer, SRS, Microsoft Excel, MS Access, however FRx is the tool of choice, when you need to build Financial Reports: Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Statement, Statement of Cash Flow
1. GL link. One of the major advantages of FRx is the link to General Ledger. In fact, FRx is working of GL Account summary table with recalculating balances out of GL open and if required work transactions. This fact minimizes reports design efforts and allows you to concentrate on such FRx report building blocks changing as Row Format and Column Layout
2. Reporting Tree. If you have multiple companies in your GP system or if within your one company you can deploy specific account segment to mark your territorial or product based business lines – then FRx reporting tree is the tool, allowing you to see the profit for the chosen business line
3. Consolidated reporting. In FRx you could build consolidated P&L or consolidated Balance Sheet by following corporate consolidation rules and eliminating intercompany accounts (normally purchasing and sales) from the consolidated report. Consolidated report is typically required in larger organization or in international business. For the multinational corporation FRx has multicurrency and currency translation features
4. Current FRx version. It is FRx 6.7 for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. FRx 6.7 service pack 9 is required. For technical consultants: FRx stores its reports metabase in Sysdata folder
5. FRx and Excel worksheets. If your business model includes multiple legal entities, where some of them are really tiny and it is impractical to setup Great Plains company, and instead you run their Balance and P&L in Excel – then FRx allows you to link your consolidated report to the Excel worksheets
6. FRx and Budgets. If you are using Budgets for accounts in Dynamics GP, then you could get the advantage of FRx Budget related columns on the Column Layout
