During the year 2007 there were released on the market several models of colour laser printers. The HP Laserjet 2840 was very appreciated for its qualities and for the price that didn’t go beyond $1000. These days this reconditioned printer is sold at a very low price. Although it is good enough for your daily activities, it cannot compete with a modern multifunctional printer.
Overview:
During the year 2007 there were released on the market several models of colour laser printers. The HP Laserjet 2840 was very appreciated for its qualities and for the price that didn’t go beyond $1000. These days this reconditioned printer is sold at a very low price. Although it is good enough for your daily activities, it cannot compete with a modern multifunctional printer.
Pros:
A few years ago the market of colour printers with prices under $1000 was dominated by two models. One model was produced by Hewlett Packard: Laserjet 2840. The other one was released by Canon: ImagaClass MF8170c. They had similar features although the HP model surpassed the Canon model in a few directions.
Today both models are old fashioned because they work with a very slow speed. This low level of speed won’t stop the user to get vivid colours for the printed materials. The resolution offers high fidelity for both the photo reproductions and the text documents.
The built in fax function uses an alphanumeric keypad and speed dial buttons. The control panel is easy to understand and it has a nice design. HP Lasejet 2840 has pairs of buttons for every function with a friendly placement. You can take control on all features with an easy to read manual. The LCD screen is an important part of the printer which provides information for all the functions.
On the front of this device there are some places for media cards. So, the user can print photos stored on a digital or a video camera directly from their memory card.
HP Laserjet 2840 offers four in one services: printer, copier, scanner and fax.
Cons:
The print speed is very slow because the print technology is totally outdated. It has a carousel with four cycles for passing each page four times through the printer. Each cycle is for a different colour. It takes a lot of time to get a photo reproduction. The speed for colour printed materials doesn’t exceed 4 pages per minute.
For the text document in black and white the speed can reach 20 pages per minute. Let’s say that the speed for monochrome documents is good enough but it doesn’t vary according to the printing mode. You won’t get a higher speed for draft mode for example.
Unfortunately, the quality of colour scanned pages is very low.
Another major disadvantage is the terrible noise that the printer produces when it is working. This device has a lot of black balls relatively to the new models that were released in the last year on the market.
