Outlook Express stores e-mail messages in DBX files, which can be found in a folder named as 'Store Folder'. All these files are indexed and the associated information is then stored in Folders.dbx file. It includes structure of all mail folders, new groups, and synchronization data, if any. If the folder goes corrupted or missing, this can affect other Outlook Express mail folders as well, while rendering their data inaccessible.
