I'm sure we all wish there was a secret formula we could apply to each blog post to make it go viral ... if only it was that easy.
The good news however is that there are ways to boost your chances. In so doing, you'll ensure as many people as possible see your content.
Of course, it goes without saying that if you don't have great content in the first place, your chances are going to be minimal. So we'll assume you've put the effort in to create high quality content that's full of value for the reader, and serves to educate, inform, amuse and/or entertain them.
With that as your foundation, try using as many of the following as possible to make your content fly ...
1. Keyword Optimization
Ensure your content matches what people are looking for by doing some basic keyword research. By optimizing your content for the keywords in question, you'll not only help search engines understand what your content is about, but also attract the attention of your target market.
2. Google+
When sharing posts, most people choose to share a link, which can mean your own post can slip by unnoticed. Instead, try sharing an image from your post. Then add your link along with an enticing comment to encourage click through.
3. Twitter
You can automate updating Twitter with your new posts. Simply add the RSS feed for your blog into a tool like Hootsuite.
4. Technorati
Technorati relies largely on your RSS feed too. Register your blog with them, and then each new post will be picked up on auto-pilot.
5. RSS Submission
Yes, you get many benefits from RSS! Submit your blog's RSS feed to RSS and blog directories, and get your feed out there and working hard for your business. Again, do it once, and you get ongoing benefits.
6. LinkedIn
7. Facebook
8. StumbleUpon
9. Reddit
10. Digg
11. Delicious
12. Comment on Forums Related to your Niche
13. Post to Forums Related to your Niche
14. YouTube
Convert your post into video format. Simply create a presentation (eg. Powerpoint) based on your post. Then video your desktop together with a voiceover using Camtasia (PC) or Screenflow (Mac) and upload to YouTube. Do this with each post and feed your own YouTube channel with regular new content.
Of course, your video represents brand new content you can use to further add to your online visibility. Share it over social media, add into the original post, or create a new post from it a few months down the line.
So that's 14 ways to make your next blog post go viral ...
