Starting an online business requires the same motivation, determination, creativity, and commitment as starting a brick and mortar operation. It even takes a little cash money. So if you don't have all this, you can save yourself a lot of trouble right now by just finding a hobby or playing the lottery.
Starting an online business can be a great way to create an extra income. In fact you could end up quitting your day job and working from home full-time if that's what you really want.
But make no mistake: The Web does not magically remove the need for creative thought, serious determination, and old fashioned hard work from the equation of success.
I realize late night infomercials promise you easy wealth if you'll just spend a few minutes each day on some new home business system. And I understand that your inbox gets a dozen emails every day telling you all about those no work, no money, get rich now systems.
But let me assure you beyond the shadow of any possible doubt right here and right now these people are all fibbing to you. Why would they do that?
Simple. To get you into their free front-end sales funnel, push your emotional hot buttons, and then sell you a wide range of "business resources" at top dollar pricing.
It's quite the brilliant plan. And it works like crazy.
You can and should take note of the very smart marketing and delivery being used by all these business opportunity and work from home companies. But you should absolutely not buy into the idea that launching your business will be as effort-free as an afternoon in your favorite hammock.
I've made my living as an online marketer since 2005. And I've helped many other people create nice results with their own online business ventures.
I know what I'm talking about here, and I urge you in the strongest possible sense: Please don't bother with this whole starting an online business thing unless you are dead serious about seeing it through.
Almost everyone who says they're going to start an online business gives up before earning any real money. And the leading cause for this failure is the discovery that online business operations do in fact require effort, planning, and strategic execution.
This is a sad fact that really should embarrass the folks it's aimed at. But it's true; most people don't really want an online business, they want an Internet-based handout.
All you need to do for proof of this suggestion is step into any Internet marketing forum and read some of the posts. You'll find the biggest group of whiners you've ever seen, each one looking for pity and asking where they can sign up for a business that requires no work and even less money.
It's a joke. And it really offends me.
Please consider these questions:
Have you ever heard a restaurant owner say: "Gosh I hope I can keep this place running and make big money with just a few hours each week."
Or, you have you ever heard someone say: "I'm planning on starting a lawn care business, and I hope to do this without spending any money."
Probably the answer to both questions above is no. However you may have heard/read many statements and questions of this nature from people who say they're planning on starting an online business.
But I hope you know better than to say or think any nonsense like this for yourself.
The last thing the Web needs is another doofus pretending to be an entrepreneur but really just looking for a free ride. So please, only move forward with your plans to start an online business if you are 100% committed physically, emotionally and financially to putting a real venture together.
