Arise Awake focuses on making one’s own way to achieve success with the opportunities available rather than relying on destiny to work its magic. The author Rashmi Bansal jots down multiple stories of multiple entrepreneurs who didn’t wait for the world to give them what they desire rather realised their dream and took things in their own hands. They decided to carve their own niche with all the opportunities available.
Also, the author urges the readers to break out of the mindset that opportunities are coming or look out for the right opportunities. She deems these sayings as foolish and silly because there are no right opportunities. The moment you decide to work on an opportunity that comes your way and give it your 100 percent, that opportunity becomes the right decision taken at the right time. If you want to learn about entrepreneurs who brought real change in India, then continue to read on!
This story is about Two Eforea (E-Cell of Karnataka National Institute of Technology) students who decided to create something big and didn’t lose hope in challenging situations. These two students, Shashank and Abhinav Lal came up with an idea for Practo Technology (a software for doctors) They borrowed ten thousand rupees from Abhinav’s mother to register their company. They then made a presentation and invited twenty-five doctors to review their idea. To their disappointment, the idea of a big flop. But one doctor among them named Mohammamd Ali saw potential in these two entrepreneurs and gave them an idea to work on an app that will be practically useful for all the doctors and the patients.
The idea was to make an automatic system to remind the patients of their upcoming appointments. Shashank and Abhinav worked on this automatic SMS system which gradually became a big hit. By 2015, this system became so popular that it was being used by 10,000 doctors all across India and the worth of the company reached $3 Million.
Next story that Arise Awake summary covers is that of an undergraduate student named Sourabh Bansal whose journey towards success started when he declared that he will build a 50 billion business one day. He started looking for a business idea for everything. Once he was working in his father’s quicklime factory when he discovered the worth of autoclaved aerated concrete or AAC blocks. After research he learned that the cost of producing AAC blocks is quite high, so if he reduces the cost of production, his business will flourish.
Sourabh’s action plan came into motion when a relative trusted his instincts and invested in his business. By using the coal fired boiler his cost was reduced by 60 percent. And as the cost went down, the demand went up which resulted in success. The business turnover became 1.5 billion after six years and Sourabh Bansal is on his way to fulfil his dream.
It is rightly said by someone that failures are much more important than success. You must be thinking why will someone believe in something this negative. The reason is simple. Because the lessons derived from failures can never be derived from success.
Prabhkiran Singh’s story is the third story that is mentioned in the Arise Awake book. Prabhkiran Singh is the co-founder of Bewakoof brand but do you know that his previous failed business gave rise to this successful one? It is rightly said by someone that a person should never quit before a miracle. And Prabhkiran Singh’s journey depicts that he is a strong believer in miracles. He first started with a lassi business. He started with a small investment and it took no time to become a hit but after sometime the business drastically dropped as it was weather dependent. Observing the loopholes, Singh decided to shut it down. He then saw potential in his friend’s website called Bewakoof.
He approached him and gave him an idea of selling T-shirts on that website. They agreed to start this new venture but it was hard to fetch investors in the beginning. Singh decided to work on this single handedly because of his prior experience with his business. His hard work and prior experience with his lassi business paid off and he found the investor. The new business started and eventually became a success. By 2014, Bewakoof had a turnover of five hundred million rupees with 150 active employers.
Key takeaways from Arise Awake summary are - Self-belief and hard work when combined together can work as a miracle, seizing the opportunity available and not waiting for the right opportunity, failures are an inevitable part of life, finding the right business idea that caters to your need is super important.
