NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Kankan Ramos in the Elemental Realms. The exhibition opens May 19, 2017, and runs through June 8, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, May 25, from 6-8 pm.
Kankan Ramos’s acrylic abstract paintings possess the fluidity and endless vistas of the sea, while resonating with viewers on both an aesthetic and emotional level. Possessing a love for creativity and art from early childhood, as an adult Ramos uses her artwork to channel her feelings and experiences navigating life as a working mother, artist, and modern woman. Her abstract paintings are directly inspired by the ocean, submerging viewers in ebullient fluctuations of color and texture. Ramos also paints portraits, hoping to empower women by telling their stories on canvas. Whether she’s painting portraits or abstract seascapes, however, Ramos’s work is always a manifestation of her personal search for identity, and human connection. They reflect her evolution, expressed through artistic observation and experimentation.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Ramos is currently the Chief Operating Officer at ArribaDigital Inc and a Digital Marketing Lecturer at the Digital Marketing Institute. She says her biggest accomplishment as an artist is to make people feel better and galvanize them to explore their own lives and surroundings.
Agora Gallery presents a modern exploration of texture with the new collective exhibition Elemental Realms. This exhibition covers both abstraction and figurative imagery and includes purely visual surfaces as well as more three-dimensional mixed-media pieces that resemble friezes. Several artists play with paint; it is blotted, it is thinned, it is slicked down, and dry paint is even cracked to create deep shadows. Wrapped up too in these physical manipulations is the way colors blend into one another - or don't. Elsewhere, one artist mixes acrylic with explosions of gold leaf to create a new sub-genre of painting, and another splatters thin ropes of paint in endless layers in a kind of two-dimensional scaffolding. Elemental Realms investigates the ways in which texture conveys information, emotion, and environment.
Kankan Ramos’s work is a testament to the power of art to convey deep personal and emotional experiences. Her ability to channel her life’s journey into her paintings offers viewers a unique opportunity to connect with her on a profound level. The Elemental Realms exhibition at Agora Gallery is not just an art show; it’s an exploration of human emotion, identity, and the endless possibilities of artistic expression.
