NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will showcase the original works of Isabella S. Minichmair in the "Elemental Realms" exhibition. The event kicks off on May 19, 2017, and runs until June 8, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, May 25, from 6-8 pm.
Born in Kirchdorf an der Krems, Austria, Isabella S. Minichmair is a distinguished artist who studied Fine Art at the University of Art and Design in Linz. She later earned a PhD in Philosophy of Art and Cultural History from the same institution. Her oil paintings, which often focus on trees and the natural world, are characterized by a rustic palette that harmoniously blends cool and warm colors. "The trees in my pictures subtly represent people and their relationships," Minichmair explains. "The light on the branches symbolizes the emotions and feelings that prevail between the protagonists."
Minichmair's fascination with light began during long walks with her father, who always carried a camera. He would often hand it to her and instruct her to "pay particular attention to the light." This early lesson has profoundly influenced her work. Travels with her mother further deepened her appreciation for light, as they explored Austrian art treasures, including old churches, castles, frescos, paintings, and tapestries. Today, Minichmair also designs glass windows to bring new light into old churches. She aims for her work to express both the challenges and joys of life, which she describes as a gift. "We need courage," she says, "to make it come alive."
Isabella S. Minichmair currently works from her studio in Waldneukirchen, Austria. Her dedication to capturing the essence of light and nature continues to inspire her creations.
Agora Gallery presents a modern exploration of texture with the collective exhibition "Elemental Realms." This exhibition spans both abstraction and figurative imagery, featuring purely visual surfaces as well as three-dimensional mixed-media pieces that resemble friezes. Several artists experiment with paint in various ways: it is blotted, thinned, slicked down, and even cracked to create deep shadows. The interplay of colors, whether they blend seamlessly or stand in stark contrast, adds another layer of complexity. One artist combines acrylic with explosions of gold leaf to create a new sub-genre of painting, while another uses thin ropes of paint in endless layers to form a two-dimensional scaffolding. "Elemental Realms" delves into how texture conveys information, emotion, and environment.
Isabella S. Minichmair's work, with its unique focus on light and nature, offers a refreshing perspective in the contemporary art scene. Her contributions to the "Elemental Realms" exhibition are a testament to her skill and vision, making this event a must-see for art enthusiasts.
