NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery is set to showcase the original works of Feldkirch-based artist Rita Galambos in the exhibition "Mélange of Milieu." The event kicks off on February 14, 2017, and runs until March 7, 2017, with an opening reception scheduled for Thursday, February 16, from 6-8 pm.
Rita Galambos, born in Hungary, honed her skills in graphic design at the School of Art in Szombathely and the University of West Hungary in Sopron. Her artistic style oscillates between abstract and figurative, a necessity she attributes to the restrictive nature of realistic art. Despite the varied approaches, her work is consistently tied together by the theme of water, which she views as a medium for expressing her emotions. "I strive to be smooth and ethereal with my art," Galambos explains. "I also paint quickly to capture my current feelings in the artwork."
This emotional channeling sometimes results in a more textured style, achieved through the use of thick brushes, painting knives, and plastic cards. These pieces contrast with her usual serene pastel waterfronts, sailboats, and trees, yet they seem to depict the same world from a different perspective. Galambos believes that human nature can be perceived "through different streams of color."
Rita Galambos currently resides and works in Feldkirch, Austria.

This February, Agora Gallery presents "Mélange of Milieu," a group exhibition that showcases innovative genre-bending techniques by contemporary artists. The eight featured artists come from diverse backgrounds, including Ukraine, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, and the United States, yet their works engage in a fascinating dialogue with each other. The exhibition juxtaposes hazy, Impressionistic landscapes with bold figural paintings, creating a dynamic interplay of styles.
"Mélange of Milieu" stands out among current gallery shows for its equal emphasis on sculpture and painting. The exhibition includes a variety of three-dimensional works, offering a comprehensive look at the field. Visitors can expect to see highly realistic bronze figurines of imaginary animals, sleek stone depictions of the human body in motion, and assemblages of brightly colored wooden blocks that evoke cosmic patterns.
By exploring the works of Rita Galambos and her contemporaries, "Mélange of Milieu" offers a unique opportunity to experience the evolving landscape of contemporary art. Don't miss this chance to see how these artists are pushing the boundaries of their mediums and redefining artistic expression.
