NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery is set to showcase the original works of Kristin Dillon in the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition. The event kicks off on August 19, 2017, and runs through August 30, 2017, with an opening reception on Saturday, August 19, from 6-8 pm.
Kristin Dillon’s photographic artistry captures the essence of both the ordinary and the extraordinary in the seasonal landscapes of small-town Maine. Her work reflects a transient sense of home, having grown up in the Twin Cities before relocating to rural Maine in her early twenties. Dillon’s photography is driven by her curiosity about the unfamiliar and the strange, allowing her to remain a curious observer in her own community.
Since the age of twelve, Dillon has always had a camera in hand, often finding her best work spontaneously. She describes herself as a lifelong student of behavioral patterns and sociology, using photography as a medium to connect with her subjects, whether for a fleeting moment or a lifetime.
Dillon resides in Whitefield, Maine, with her husband and two children. Professionally, she specializes in documentary-style photography and portraiture, capturing the essence of her subjects with a unique perspective.
The exhibition will also feature works from a diverse group of artists, including:
This August, Agora Gallery presents the selected artists of the 2017 Chelsea International Fine Art Competition. The exhibition showcases an incredible variety of works, demonstrating extraordinary skill and creativity. From precise, minimalist drawings to maximal, playful sculptures, the range of art on display is vast. Monochrome, graphic paintings exploring repetition are displayed alongside hyper-realistic still lifes inspired by classical art. The exhibition features imagined landscapes and human moments that resonate with authenticity. Even the landscape photographers defy comparison, with some producing stoic, black-and-white views of single trees, while others create expansive, full-color vistas. The 2017 jurors' selections share a common thread of fearlessness, skillful execution, and unforgettable originality.
Kristin Dillon’s work is a testament to the power of photography to capture both the mundane and the profound, offering viewers a unique glimpse into the landscapes and lives of small-town Maine. Her participation in the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition is a celebration of her talent and dedication to the art form.
