The first Chinese custom that they do is getting the colors together for the festival. They primary color that they use is red. Red represents fire and it is considered to defeat any bad luck that they might have during the New Year. During the Chinese New Year, they also use the color gold, which represents good fortune.

Another Chinese custom is regarding that flowers that is used during the celebration. The flowers that they include are Azaleas, Narasus’, Peonies and Water lilies. For the Chinese New Year, Chinese families have live flowers in their home because by doing so, it is said to represent new growth and rebirth. Another Chinese custom is making an offering to the Kitchen God, Zaowang. He is the God is the guardian of the families’ health. He is in charge of keeping an eye on the family and reports back to Heaven to recall all of the families past deeds, both good and bad. It is for that reason that the families want to keep the Kitchen God Zaowang in good humor; they offer him a sticky cake for a sign of confection.  Sticky cake is typically a traditional Chinese candy.

Chinese families wants to make sure that the New Year will bring them good fortune and wealth. That is why they have the Chinese customs to make sure that they do not bring any type of negativity into the New Year.
