With winter coming on, if you do not have a place to get your vehicles out of the weather, the you might want to consider a portable carport. Here are some reasons why these come in handy, regardless of the weather. Plus some of the different styles available.
Instead of a portable carport, we have a detached metal shed that is open at one end, just like many of the carports available. This weekend we cleared it out enough so that we can pull our suburban into it without any problems. Last night when we got home, the sky was clear and we could tell that it was going to get cold, so we pulled on in for the night. This morning when I went out to start the car at 6:00, I noticed that my son's truck had a heavy layer of frost on the windshield, but our suburban was frost free! Though I still warmed up the car for a bit, it was nice not to worry about scraping any frost.
Of course, up north, the frost is the least of our worries, and luckily, that is all we have had so far this year. But it won't be long before the snow flies and a portable carport would be great appreciated to save all the digging out early on a winter morning. Not only is this a real pain, but excess snow on your car can be a safety issue if you are running late and only do a half baked job of clearing your car.
Perhaps you have a garage for your cars, but have some other items that could use storing for the winter. This can include large RV's, ATV's, motorcycles and boats. A portable carport works great for any of these. There are some portable carports that are even specially designed for RV's, meaning that they are tall enough to store these big boys during times of non-use.
But winter isn't the only time a portable carportscan be appreciated. They are also great in the summer for providing shade for your car so that you are not sitting on super hot seats. It also helps to protect your vehicle's paint from fading and other sun related damage.
There are also a variety of different types of portable carports available. But the main two categories are metal carports and carport canopies.
Metal carports usually have metal framing and then a metal roof that curves over the edge and comes just a little way down the sides. These provide great overhead protection, but nothing really for the side, which is not best if you live in a windy and snowy area. They do come in a variety of sizes, for one or two cars and even grand carports which a business may use outside for protecting many items.
The other main style of portable carports are the canopies. These also usually have a metal frame, but then have a soft top. Some styles have tops only, many also have sides, and some have a door so that you can fully enclose and protect your items from external conditions.
So, if you have a vehicle of any kind that could use protection from the elements, then consider a portable carport. Besides different styles and sizes, they are easy to construct and a lot less expensive than putting up an external building.
