I want to talk to you about the different types of probiotics,Autism Treatment – Using Probiotics in Autism Treatment Articles what are called general probiotics and those that are called treatment specific probiotics. The options for different types of probiotics on the market are many and varied these days. For example, New Beginnings has their Probiotic Support Formula, Kirkman Labs has their Multi-Flora Spectrum, and Klaire Labs has Therbiotic Complete. And while there are other good probiotics on the market, I wanted to highlight these three which do provide good, multi-floral products with a number of good bacteria. So Probiotic Support Formula, Therbiotic Complete and Multi-Flora Spectrum all serve to aid in the overall health of the digestive tract. It is very similar to a multi-vitamin in this respect, only it is providing support for the digestive system.

Treatment specific probiotics are what we can discuss next. We would use treatment specific probiotics to address a specific disorder. For example, those who suffer from a bacteria overgrowth of clostridia may choose Culturelle, which is a specific probiotic called acidophilus GG, that is helpful for going after clostridia bacteria. One yeast treatment many people have used is Three Lac. Three Lac would not be used as an all purpose, long term, general immune and digestive support though. Three Lac would specifically be used to attack yeast. Another good example of a treatment specific probiotic is VSL #3. VSL #3 is a very potent probiotic that is mainly used as a part of an oxalate lower program. It helps degrade oxalates and even though it can be helpful for clostridia as well, its primary function is to break down oxalates. And one final treatment specific probiotic that we will cover is called Saccharomyces Boulardii. Saccharomyces Boulardii is a form of yeast that can attack other yeasts, like candida. It can be effective at aiding in yeast control, and can be used while taking antibiotics to prevent a yeast outbreak. Saccharomyces Boulardii can also be effective against clostridia overgrowth as well.

So this was a highlight as to some of the many probiotic options that are out there. So once again there are multi-floral probiotics that are general, all purpose products that are meant to enhance the immune system as well as the digestive system. And then we have the treatment specific probiotics which tend to treat specific issues as I discussed above.
