There are three main types of breast implants that are currently available to women undergoing augmentation. If you are considering one of these procedures please read on.
There are three different types of breast implants to consider,
but choosing the right one may not be the easiest choice. Each has its own set of pros and cons to consider. Speak with your plastic surgeon about what is available and what might work best for you and your cosmetic surgery goals.
Saline
One of the safest and most highly recommended types of breast implants is saline. Saline is a water solution that can be injected into the implant shell after it is inserted into the body. That means that if it leaks, you will notice immediately and the solution is harmlessly absorbed into your body. It also means that you have a wide range of incision options resulting in less scarring.
Silicone
Banned for many years in the United States, silicone breast implants have made a comeback which has many women excited about the prospects. Silicone has much been lauded as a more natural-looking and feeling option that saline. The gel tends to mimic the shape, weight, and overall appearance of a breast much more than silicone can.
So what’s the problem? Silicone leaks are the biggest medical concern among patients and doctors. While the effects of silicone leaking into the body are still questionable, there is no doubt that it can be a risky affair. It also can take years to detect a leak in silicone breast implants. There are also limitations on how the implants can be inserted into the body. There are only a few incision areas available, most of which are much more conspicuous than what is available with their saline counterparts.
Gummy Bear
The name is not the only thing that is sweet about these cutting-edge breast implants. The gummy bear implant is set to rival silicone and saline in appearance, safety, and overall feel. These implants are made of a solid silicone, which means there are no leaks, rippling, or other risks that can be associated with liquid-based implants. They look and feel natural with few of the health risks that come with traditional silicone implants.
So what’s the problem? The biggest issue surrounding gummy bear breast implants is the FDA. They are currently still not approved for use in the USA. However, they are available overseas. Before you hop on a plane, the reason that these breast implants are not available is because more tests need to be done. Because the implants are made of silicone, there is a question as to whether its constant contact with the body will create health problems. It may still be a few more years yet until the gummy bear gets approval, but if you are greatly intrigued by the prospect, you may want to wait for the verdict from the FDA or consider going abroad for surgery.
