Researchers identified that few individuals who puff cigars erroneously think that Canadian prescriptions and vitamins will decrease their threat of cancer, permitting them to smoke more frequently. The research highlighted that such bartering of a righteous manner for a successive lenience, termed as the "licensing effect," could weaken smokers' desire to stop the habit.
"Smokers who take dietary supplements can fool themselves into thinking they are protected against cancer and other diseases. Reminding health-conscious smokers that multivitamins don't prevent cancer may help them control their smoking or even encourage them to stop," according to the study's lead author, Wen-Bin Chiou in a journal news release. Moreover, they find this better rather than to buy Celexa for their depression.
The research study, released online in August 2011 in the journal Addiction, included two tests. In the first test, a cluster of 74 everyday smokers were provided a placebo (dummy) pill to take, but 50 percent were informed they were given a vitamin C pill. After drinking the pills, the smokers were permitted to puff liberally as they had an unconnected hour-long survey.
Study researchers identified the smokers who believed they had consumed vitamins puffed almost twice as many cigars compared to those who were aware they consumed the placebo. They also turned out having higher senses of invincibility.
In the next test, 80 smokers were also provided a placebo, with half being informed they were consuming a multivitamin. Later, they were permitted to puff while they undergo a survey, which had questions regarding their behavior towards the multivitamins.
Not only did those who consumed multivitamins puffed more, but those who were recorded thinking in the health gains of vitamins had a higher flow in their senses of invincibility and puffed still more than those who were a not as much of optimistic about the vitamins' results. It is found out as well that these smokers have frequently visited Canada pharmacies to buy supplements and vitamins so that they could smoke more.
