Gunpowder tea comes from specific provinces in China, mostly the Zhejiang Province, and dates back to the year 600. It did not become popular until the tea was introduced in Taiwan in the 1800s.

Gunpowder Tea Preparation

 

1.Start with 1 tsp. of gunpowder tea to every 5 ounces of water, and increase or decrease to taste.

2.The cup or teapot should be warmed before using. The best water temperature to use for brewing this tea is between 70-80°C, or 158- 176°F.

3.For the first and second brewing, the leaves should be steeped for one minute. With subsequent brewing the steeping time should be extended.

4.Milk should not be added to gunpowder tea.
