Our body requires a host of different vitamins, minerals, herbs and nutrients to function properly. Poor diets, insufficient amounts of exercise, bad lifestyle choices and irregular sleep patterns result in our bodies not being able to absorb maximum nutrients from its surroundings and food we consume.
Due to this most people suffer from some vitamin deficiency which is reflected in the way their body functions. These deficiencies can sometimes even cause a particular organ to not function properly like lack of consumption of vitamin A sources causes hair loss. Some may even result in fatal diseases. Therefore it is of utmost importance that we understand the vitamin and nutrient needs of our body and supply it with what it needs.
A well balanced meal is usually recommended by doctors and nutrition experts as such a meal includes all the different essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals our body needs to remain healthy and active. We require a number of vitamins like vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin K, Vitamin C and minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc. Sources for such vitamins and minerals are abundant. Vitamin A is one of the most essential vitamins and is detrimental for the proper functioning of a number of organs in the human body. A good vitamin A source is animal products. It can be found in chicken, kidney, liver, oily fish like tuna and mackerel, tout as well as milk, butter, cheese and eggs. This vitamin is essential for growth and healthy skin and hair. It promotes cell growth and improves vision, especially at night. It contains a powerful antioxidant that boosts the immune system. Another source of this vitamin is a substance called beta-carotene. This is converted into vitamin A by the body and can be found in orange, yellow and green vegetables and fruits like papaya, carrots, pumpkins, apricots, kale, broccoli and sweet potato. The quantity requirements of vitamin a can differ from person to person. It is dependant on body composition, diet and medical history. On an average, a regular male teenager requires about 900 micrograms of vitamin A every day. An average teenage girl requires 700 micrograms each day. An excess of vitamin A can cause headaches, skin changes and eve liver damage. Vitamin A can also be taken in an artificial form through Health supplements. However one must be careful when taking these supplements. Vitamin A supplements should not be taken if you are consuming isotretinoin (such as Accutane) for acne or other skin problems.
Nutrition supplements are a great way to ensure you fulfill all the nutritional needs of your body. Sometimes it is not practical for you to include all the different sources of all the different vitamins, minerals and nutrients into your meals. sometimes dietary habits like being a vegetarian doesn’t allow you to consume essential nutrients like fish oil which is present in oily fish and so these health supplements are a convenient and safe way for you to get just the right dosage and combination of essential nutrients without having to worry about including things into your daily diet.
