To make little Ghosts you will need

An egg cup, a potato, a few cocktail sticks, Clingfilm, white paper napkins, PVA glue and a black felt tip pen.

You need to make a model or mould first, you do this by sticking a few cocktail sticks into the potato to look like arms, sit the potato in the egg cup and wrap the whole thing up in Clingfilm. This stops the ghost from sticking to it all later. You could use a Barbie doll standing in a glass, but ask before using someone else’s doll and make sure you wrap it up well in Clingfilm so it doesn’t get spoilt. Stand you finished model on a sheet of Clingfilm to protect the surface and to avoid the ghost from sticking.

Mix up about a tablespoon of PVA glue with a tablespoon of water. Then soak an opened paper napkin in the mixture. You need to make sure it all gets wet, whilst trying to keep the napkin, napkin like.

Then drape the napkin over the model that was prepared earlier. To avoid tearing, lift the napkin and push it down the arms a little. Let the napkin hang down and on the surface a slightly, this will ensure that the ghost can stand when it’s dry. If there is too much overhang, find something to stand the model on. An old box perhaps?

Leave the ghost to dry over night.

Draw on a spooky face with black paint or a felt tip pen and carefully remove the ghost from the model. Be very careful not to rip or crush the ghost.

You can leave the Ghost as free standing decorations or you can thread a needle with some invisible thread and suspend the ghosts from the ceiling.

If you are having a Halloween dinner party, the ghosts make great place names. Cut out a strip of card as a sign for the ghost to hold. Write the name of your guest on the sign and glue it to the ghosts ‘hands’.
