Last week I told you that Getty's number one rule for
getting rich was to be self employed.
His second rule was that you must have a working knowledge
of your business when you start and continue to increase
your knowledge of it as you go along.
There's a story the president of our college used to tell
that illustrates that point.
Dr. Sid would get up and lecture about making money
in college by going door to door selling pots and pans.
When he first started out, he would him and haw and get
flustered. He'd spend days on end knocking on doors and
not make a sale.
One day when he was ready to give up and throw in the
towel, he started reading the company literature about
the products.
As he began reading, he started to get excited. He learned
everything there was to know about those pots and pans.
He learned how well they were crafted and how superior
they were over the store bought brands.
The next time he went knocking on doors, he knew so much
about the pots and pans, that his enthusiasm was contagious.
There wasn't a question a customer could ask, that he
couldn't answer.
His sales went through the roof.
He knew those pots and pans inside out. He loved those
pots and pans.
Do you study the products or services you're selling?
Probably not.
You join affiliate programs. Send out a few ads and pop
a link on your site?
How do you expect your customers to get excited, if you
aren't?
You have to learn, if you want to earn. You better feed
your head, if you want to carry it on your hip.
Start learning everything there is to know about what
you're selling. Get excited.
So what if there are 1,000 marketers promoting the same
product. 90% of them are just sending out ads and pasting
links on their site.
Go the extra mile and know your products.
You'll be head and shoulders above your competition. Learn
to love those pots and pans.
