The mesmerizing tales woven by Arthur Miller in his famous ‘The Crucible’ has drawn tourists to Salem who have fallen in love with the city and sough to move here. The Parking Department of Salem set down special lots and parking permits for the trucks and trailers helping the people make their move.
The mythological town of Salem equally famous for its mystical witches and its historical waterfront is home to many. With schools like Witchcraft Heights Elementary School and athletic teams like Witches and Gallows hills,
the attraction of this multi-faceted city never wanes. The past few years have seen more and more residents moving into the city, while some have also left to explore the world beyond. However, nobody can deny the presence of Mover trucks which have become an almost daily sighting in one of the areas of Salem.
Does this mean interrupted traffic and vehicle nuisance in the city? Hardly, the Parking Department of the City Council of Salem has made special provisions for parking solutions for mover trucks.
Parking Solutions for Mover Trucks
The Parking Department recommends the mover trucks to be parked in the parking lots at Salem Willows or Winter Island. The mover truck needs to stay on-the street only during those hours of loading and unloading the truck. During these hours you can make use of the on-street parking meters.
The charges for parking in Salem are as follows:
• For parking in the Museum Place the charges are $0.75 per hour and those on the south harbor charge $0.25 per hour.
• Alternately if you intend on using it for parking for longer hours you can buy 20 stamps of 12 hour each for a bulk rate of $65. However while using the 12 hour stamps please keep in mind that only one 12 hour stamp is permitted per garage.
• The stamps cannot be refunded.
• The Daily Parking Charges for the Bridge Street lot is $4.
• Most parking lots are available free of charge on Sundays and legal holidays. The Bridge Street lot however is free of cost even on a Saturday.
• Depending on the size of the vehicle provided by your mover you will have to pay for the number of lots occupied by the vehicle.
• Parking with meters is usually open from 8am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday.
• Over staying the meter duration could result in a parking ticket.
• Hourly rates are displayed on the on-street meters. Every meter has its individual hourly rate.
• The Salem Parking Department has also issued smart cards worth $10, $20, $30, $40 and $50 which can be used in parking meters.
• The smart cards require a $5 deposit which is mandatory.
• You can continue to use some of the on-street parking meters after 6 pm for free of cost
