The word is out that search engine marketing mean only paid search engine advertising but in reality it also include SEO – search engine optimization or organic. In this article I will summarize some of the non - paid (organic search marketing techniques) especially local Map and directories.

Local Map

Local was introduced by Goolge for local search result and is now used by Bing and Yahoo. It is a great way to promote your business for free and some time you need and expert to optimize your local listing   so it will rank higher. Google use different approach to how it ranks in the local businesses. Now days Yahoo and Bing are also using Local map results which has been used by many business owners.

Business directories

This include some of a sound directories include Yahoo and Google which is also known as open directory or Dmoz directory. These are many internet business directories and you be capable of having your business listed in them for at no cost or some fees depending on the directory.  The majority of the directories offer listing types or sponsored listing. Each type holds certain features and is at a different price. There are also newly promoted directories such as Yellow pages or White pages. A fast rising directory is hot frog which growing very fast which made the owner to sponsor many Google adds and banner advertising. The advertising will be set above your local listing unless you use sponsored results.

Now in my opinion Local Map is the most important technique you can use due to high traffic volume and it is based on demand and supply. While the directories comes as second best due to lower visibility.
