Pedestrian hit and killed on Highway 99 in Modesto
A 47-year-old transient ran in front of a Hyundai Accent on Highway 99 in Modesto near 9th Street on the night of April 16. The vehicle struck the man at around 70 to 75 miles per hour in the fast lane, killing him.
CHP said drugs and alcohol didn’t appear to be a factor in the accident. The two occupants of the Hyundai, both from Manteca, were uninjured.
Pregnant woman injured by reckless drivers on Highway 99 in Modesto
Street racing on Highway 99 in Modesto led to a pregnant woman being badly injured on March 11. Her unborn child was unharmed and her two children in her vehicle were mostly unharmed.
Witnesses said an Infiniti sedan and a silver BMW sedan appeared to be street racing at a speed of over 100 miles per hour when the Infiniti, driven by a 25-year-old Turlock resident, struck a Toyota Camry and a Nissan sedan, causing the Camry to strike the pregnant woman’s Chevrolet Traverse.
The Traverse collided with the center concrete wall, traveled across every northbound traffic lane and “basically flew off the freeway, overturned an unknown number of times and landed on” Zeff road, according to a CHP officer.
The pregnant woman suffered a broken left arm, broken ribs and a cervical fracture, and was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center.
One of her children suffered a small cut to the back of his head and her other child was uninjured. A CHP officer said properly-installed car seats saved the lives of the children.
“This mom did it right. There’s no denying those children are still with us today because she did that,” the officer said about the mother’s great job of installing the car seats.
The Camry driver and the Nissan driver were uninjured, as well as the passengers in the Nissan.
The BMW’s driver apparently failed to stop.
The driver of the Infiniti refused ambulance transport after complaining of back and leg pain, and was not found to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Pedestrian struck, killed on Highway 99 near Modesto
A 60-year-old man was struck and killed by multiple vehicles while walking in the far right lane of Highway 99 in Salida on April 3.
The collisions occurred at about 2:25 AM. He was first struck by a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a Modesto resident, who suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. He was then struck by a 2021 Freightliner and a 2006 Toyota, and died at the scene.
The drivers of the Freightliner and Toyota were uninjured and drugs and alcohol didn’t appear to be a factor in the accident.
Semi-truck drags car in crash on Highway 99 near Modesto
A 36-year-old woman driving a 2012 Chevy Cruze on February 9 crashed into the rear of a semi-truck and was dragged to the shoulder by the truck.
The woman took her eyes off the road when she reached down to grab something and this caused her to crash into the rear of the truck. The woman was transported to a local trauma center with severe injuries. The truck driver was uninjured.
Minor injuries occur after 6-car crash on Highway 99 in Modesto
A six-car crash occurred on Highway 99 in Modesto around 9:20 PM on January 3, resulting in minor injuries.
The accident occurred at the Tuolumne River Bridge and caused delays of about an hour.
Big rig crashes through center divider on Highway 99 in Modesto
A big rig crashed through the center divide of Highway 99 in Modesto, south of Briggsmore Avenue, on December 13 at around 11 AM.
The accident occurred while the road was wet from morning rain and the driver lost control of the truck, breaking through the median and coming to rest half on the northbound side and half on the southbound side. Concrete barrier pieces were sprayed across northbound lanes of Highway 99.
No injuries occurred in the accident, which closed three lanes of traffic.
Car goes airborne after drifting off Highway 99 in Modesto
A car drifted off of Highway 99 in Modesto in November, launching into the air off a dirt embankment as if it was a ramp. California Highway Patrol shared video of the accident, which caused only minor injuries to the driver, who wasn’t paying attention when the accident occurred.
