The more a print business card can say about a person the better. You want your custom business card to be able to provide a person with enough information so that they’ll be comfortable doing business with you,
and to remember who you are long after they first spoke to you.
In order to accomplish this many people put titles on their color business cards. Whatever job title they have they make sure to put this underneath their name, but does this really explain a lot about your job? Is your job title alone enough to help a person know exactly what it is that you do?
It’s rather important when trying to market your skills that a person actually knows all of the jobs you can perform, because you might very well be able to help them, but they don’t realize that you can.
I draw certain conclusions when I see a job title about what it is that the person does. All I have to go off of is the title, so this is all I can use to make my guesses, but what about jobs you do that aren’t really reflected in that title? Do you do more than what your title suggests, and the title really only represents parts of what you’re able to do?
Sometimes all it takes is an additional line beneath your title describing quickly a few of the specifics of your job. You can have this instead of your job title, where you describe the various jobs you’ve done in the past or things you can do to help them.
This way your color business cards are able to give people that much more information about you to ensure that they know what it is that you can do for them.
In order to test whether or not your business card says what you want it to try to find someone who doesn’t know anything about you and hand them your card. Ask them what they think your job is based on what your card says. Everything about your card is likely to influence their answer from the company name to the way the card looks.
See if the jobs they list are a good reflection of what you’re able to do, or if they only cover a small amount of the things that you actually do. The fewer possibilities they list for what they think you can do, the greater the chances are of you losing business because a person just didn’t think you could do the job they wanted.
Be certain that something like this never happens to you, and that you never lose a customer you could’ve helped if only they had known you were able to. Often all it takes is a single sentence to change everything.
