The classic image of the small, grey alien with large black eyes has existed now for at least two decades, maybe far more. But we must wonder, where did this Archetype come from?
A Grey, or Grey Alien, is the common archetype that is reported when people claim to have seen or in some other way experienced Alien life here on Earth. The Archetype first developed as small Green Aliens came initially, but as more reports began to emerge, this color was changed from green to grey. The first evident report of a Grey Alien was due to an Abduction case dealing with Betty and Barney Hill.
However, over the years, this archetype has spread to the mainstream media, and often, resulting alien sightings reflect this new archetype. This has happened enough to where the concept has infiltrated popular culture, and its assumed that many reportings of 'greys' may be assumed as resultant, or even a copy of, what is portrayed in the media. However, the initial foundational reports, and even some more credible reports still have a foundational basis that they were not influenced by the media.
Since this time, several different theories have evolved as to what a Grey Alien actually is. At first, they were assumed to be beings in their own right, but two predominant theories persist that break down this notion.
From the skeptic community, many have suggested that electromagnetic influence on the brain (such as from a Television, etc) create the concept of the Greys. Often, during a sleep state, our dreams are influenced by the physiological changes around us. For years, electromagnetic radiation has caused people to feel as if they are being watched, or that something is in the room with them. When the rare occassion happens that this results in a hallucination, these beings are often lithe; mysterious; grey-scale creatures. Often, many describe something very similiar to what we percieve as 'Greys'.
A second concept, from the believer community, has emerged. They hypothesize that greys are actually servitor beings of more advanced alien species; like robots. A few hold that they are actually alien beings in space suits, designed to allow them to interact in our environment without risk to themselves. In terms of how we would handle the investigation of an alien civilization, I think this is somewhat plausible.
However, what you believe is up to you. Both theories make sense, and either one could be the truth of the matter. Encounters that support both theories are equally prolific and documented; though university research tends to lend towards the skeptic idea. But I invite you to make your own. Below, you will find a link to my blog, in which anonymous users can post their experiences or their criticisms. I invite you to take a look, or make your own post on the matter.
