where sex workers earn from this flesh industry, the issue of their molestation and trafficking of girls from outer areas remains increasing day-by-day. Several legislations have been done after independence of India to cope out with prostitution issues. India news about the signing of All India Suppression of Immoral Traffic Act (SITA) between India and United Nations in 1956 legalized prostitution in India with a few rules. In 1986, an amendment of this legislation was passed and later on it was called as The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act or PITA. Limiting and in time eliminating the threat of prostitution in India, this act gradually criminalized various aspects of sex work.
The laws being imposed on Sex Workers in PITA, 1986 are: 1. Any male/female sex worker found in seducing or soliciting at public places is an accusation. No advertisements or contact information should be provided or advertised by any means to public. Found guilty in such acts, an imprisonment up to 6 months with fine is likely to be paid. 2. Prostitution business near any public place or notified area is also illegal and its punishment carries imprisonment of up to 3 months with fine.3. For clients who are found guilty of companioning with prostitutes are also likely to be punished and put under bars. Also, engagement in sex activities with a sex worker within 200 yards of a public place or notified area is illegal. An imprisonment of up to 3 months will be imparted on such person. 4. Indulged in sex activities with a sex worker, which is below 18 years of age is an offense. Preteen sex punishment includes 7 to 10 years of imprisonment.5. For pimps and brothel managers who live off a prostitute's earnings are guilty of a crime. Though prostitution is legalized in India but making it as a business is still an illegal act. In India news, also, any adult male found living with a prostitute is equally guilty o be a convict unless he can prove otherwise. 6. People found doing sex business by providing space or managing sex workers can be prosecuted, as it is illegal. If found guilty an imprisonment of 1 to 3 years with fine for first offence. Later on again indulging in such acts, the punishment can be harsher. 7. A person found of procuring and trafficking sex workers from one place to another is liable to be punished. A punishment of 3 to 7 years imprisonment with fine is likely to be served.
