Keyword density is even more important today than it ever has been in the past. While search engine optimization is made up of more than just one component,
the emphasis has been moved and now instead of focusing on having the right keywords as much as ones that flow, you also need to focus on density if you want to find your place on page 1 of the search engines. Having the right amount of references to beat out the competition is an integral part of any smart online strategy, and the best way to be sure you are climbing the ranks on any search engine.
Keyword density is the number of times any specific keyword appears throughout the content on your web site. Keyword density is extremely important but it's not just the simple act of writing the keyword repeatedly; each and every word and sentence needs to flow and read naturally. If you repeat a keyword over and over your website will be rejected by search engines, and will quickly begin to fall of all together because you'll be labeled as spam. The standard is to go for 3 to 6 percent of your words being the keyword you are looking for. If you can keep this percentage up across a few different relevant keywords, and still have content that is easily readable and useful, you'll watch your website or blog climb up any search engines rankings.
It is easy to check your keyword density. Simply take any block of text and put it into your word processing software. Word works, open office and nearly any other software that allows you to type and create content. Most of these have a search feature and you'll simply want to search the keyword in mind. You have to search one at a time so write the word and the number of times it appears down for convenience. Next you'll want to get the total word count; on word it is often displayed at the bottom left. If not then you'll want to go to the tools menu and click word count. The shortcut will change program to program but most word processors have this feature.
Now you simply divide the number of times it appears by the number of words total and that decimal will represent the percent it appears in your content. Keep it in the guidelines listed along with frequent posts and updates and you'll be climbing the ranks of any search engine in no time.
