Most people that I meet sabotage their social interactions by making boring and general conversation. There is that sparkle missing in their conversations and this makes the social interaction remain superficial and unrewarding.
If you want to have meaningful interactions with other and to create a good impression, it’s essential that you set yourself apart from the majority of people, by making interesting conversation.
There are many things that can make a conversation exciting. Working as a communication coach, I realized there are three major points that have a big impact in making conversations interesting.
The first point is to start the conversation with the right foot forward. Making a good first impression sets a positive frame for the entire conversation and makes it more probable for the other person to find the rest of the conversation exciting as well.
This is where good conversation starters can provide a lot of help. Know a few witty and out of the ordinary ways to start a conversation and you’ll get very good reaction from other people when initiating a conversation. Practice using them and you’ll gradually get better at starting conversations with style.
The second point is to be interested. The most interesting persons are those who are interested in what others have to say. People just love to get attention from others and to have others fascinated with them. It makes them feel important and feel good.
Be curious about the other person. Everybody has some fascinating things about themselves and their lives. Seek to find them out in each conversation you have. Ask questions and actively listen to other people, and you’ll demonstrate an interest in them they rarely see.
The third point is to know interesting things. A conversation is basically and exchange of thoughts and emotions. The more interesting your thoughts, the more interesting you can make the conversation.
Knowing some interesting facts and information, and having some interesting ideas is a great way to make interesting conversation. Study various fields, read a lot, collect various interesting facts and stories. Thus, you will develop a baggage of interesting things to say in a conversation.
Making interesting conversation is one of the most valuable people skills you can have. When you can create a sparkle while talking to others, you open up a door for many positive things to happen.
