Can You Hit These Spinning Targets

For the gun hobbyist and enthusiast, spinning targets can be the top notch in the quest for better marksmanship. They may have mastered the standard flat targets and moved up to the 3-D targets, they may have even hit a living target a time or two, but the challenge of the spinning target can be one that even a sniper might relish.

Any hunter who has had any kind of success at all can tell you how hard it can be to hit a moving target, even one as big as an elk or deer. When you are out in the woods and your prey can turn and hunt you, you have to have at least some confidence in your ability to shoot and be on target. That is why hunters who have been hunting for most of their lives still take to the practice range, to hone their skills and to make sure that when a charging bear or a freaked out deer comes toward them, they will be ready.

But, some people would never dream of shooting an animal at all, preferring instead to shoot in competitions where they may be able to win prizes or just titles. It doesn’t matter what you shoot at, you can use the spinners as a good practice and a change of pace on days when you are tired of the cardboard. There are several kinds of spinners to choose from, depending on the type of firearm you are using. Obviously you are not going to use the same target for practice with a BB gun as you would with a higher powered weapon such as a rifle. You can also choose some that are mechanized, allowing you to control how fast or slow they spin.

When setting up your targets, you have to make sure that you are shooting in a safe location so that there is no chance of hitting anyone or anything behind and to the immediate sides of the target. You should also keep in mind that there is a chance of ricochet, especially when firing at these targets from close ranges. Children should only be allowed to shoot at these targets after they have taken a safety course and only with immediate, aware adult supervision. Drinking and shooting do not mix, so there should be no alcohol allowed on the shooting range for any reason.

As long as everyone is being safe and paying careful attention, a day on the shooting range can be a lot of fun as everyone takes their turn at trying to improve their shooting skills with spinning targets.
