Office technology can make work a lot easier and more efficient. Here are a few of our favorite new office gadgets/tech that can help you out in the workplace.
It’s hard to imagine how we were even able to work at all without computers, phones, and the Internet. Those pieces of technology that were once novel are now standard in almost every type of job.
New office technology is constantly being designed and implemented… some with more success than others. Not everything needs a gadget, but some of these new office technology options can make your job easier, less stressful, and more productive.
Let’s look at some of our favorite new office gadgets that can actually help you out at work.
Virtual Office Space
As more and more people flock to urban centers and cities, private office space that’s nice and affordable is much harder to come by.
That’s where virtual office space comes in. A virtual office provides flexible options and amenities to businesses that need office space, but can’t afford or don’t need permanent private office spaces.
Many businesses rent out these and other types of coworking spaces only when they need to use a meeting room or offices for employees to work from remotely. Virtual offices can also be entirely virtual simply giving your business a city-centered mailing address, a virtual assistant, and a physical location in the city of your choosing.
Time Management Tools
Gone are the days when time management meant scribbling notes onto Post-Its or having your boss look over your shoulder to track your hours.
There are now tons of time management apps that allow you to track your time spent on projects, outline deadlines, schedule meetings, and more all with technology.
Everhour, TeamWork, Toggl, GoodSync, and more are all excellent options for time management. These are great for both in-office workers and remote workers alike since they can operate entirely within your browser.
Managers can then see the time spent on certain projects to make sure that employees are on task, track whether projects are within time budgets, and more.
Waze Carpooling
Commuting is one of the top stressors for many modern employees. Not all companies provide transportation benefits, so it can also get expensive.
Waze Carpooling is an office technology that can change all of that. Similar to Uber and Lyft, Waze Carpooling is a ride-sharing app that can significantly cut down on the stress and cost of commuting. This Google-owned app can match you up with people going in your exact direction, unlike other apps that often pair you up randomly (which means higher cost overall).
You can often find people commuting to your same workspace, as it’s listed on the app, for even faster and better transportation directly to your work. You’ll share the cost of travel, gas, and tolls, so you won’t be paying for someone else’s toll; it’s all fair and evenly split to get you the best and most affordable commuting price.
The app even allows you to schedule rides at certain times so you’ll be guaranteed a ride to work when you need it.
Luxafor
With so many offices opting for open layouts and near-constant communication with apps like Slack, it can be hard to let people know that you need to get in the zone, focus, and not be disturbed.
Enter Luxafor. Luxafor is used by companies like YouTube, Google, Bank of America, Etsy, and other large companies as well.
This is essentially a signal that easily shows others whether you’re busy or not. The Luxafor Flag connects to your computer and puts a small light on your monitor. This light can then glow red (aka Do Not Disturb) or green (open to talk!). This helps people easily see whether you’re available to speak, chat, or collaborate or whether you’re busy and need to be left to focus.
This office technology minimizes your distractions and can increase productivity. It’s gadgets like this that show how something super simple can have a huge impact on your work.
