Unless you are absolutely ready to lose weight, don't even bother starting a new diet or fitness plan. It won't work. It is like a smoker not yet ready to quit. Realize that permanent weight loss comes with a lifestyle change. Are you really ready?
If you are overweight, you have probably heard these things countless times, either from friends or doctors: that weight loss is important, that if you don't lose weight, your life span will be shortened by several years, that if you don't lose weight, you could inherit killer diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart diseases, sleep apnea, etc. However, when should you lose weight? When is the right time to say: "Enough is enough! I am sick and tired of my fat belly, so am going to lose weight"?
Well, nobody can say that for you. You need to decide the correct timing for weight loss yourself. The right timing for me came with two signs. The first happened a few times. Perfect strangers would actually ask the question "when are you due?" This was a few years after my last child. Yes, I still looked pregnant because of the fat I carried on my belly. It was humiliating and would ruin my entire day, not to mention how I felt about myself.
The second sign came from my parents. Both of them struggled with health challenges as they came into their retirement years. Diabetes is prominent in my family so I am at a higher risk for developing adult onset diabetes. I knew that I had to start taking my health seriously if I wanted to avoid future health concerns. This goal of mine to lose the weight and get healthy became an extremely important focus for me, and a turning point in my life.
The timing you choose can make or break your weight loss plan. You should only start your weight loss efforts when you feel you are ready for the change that it is going to take to lose the weight. When you can honestly say that you are ready to start living a healthier lifestyle and you are seriously ready to take your life back; that is your queue to get started.
